Client: Iron&Wine. Promotional illustration for Light Verse Tour Merch

Illustration for the promotional material of the new Iron&Wine tour (Light Verse Tour Merch).
I’ve been listening to Iron&Wine for a long time, so it was a GREAT surprise when they contacted me to propose this collaboration. It has been a pleasure, thank you very much for the TOTAL creative freedom and the trust.

Where does this image come from?

The protagonists are the shadow and a version of the Fool, the tarot figure. The Fool represents an innocent character who begins an initiatory journey. She (here it is a she) ends up reaching the occult knowledge to fight evil. On her clothes, we see bells and a rose. The rose represents desires.
Traditionally, the Fool represents the jester. The jester led me to the minstrel. The minstrel led me to the song, and for this, she has a guitar.

The shadow, the figure with a crow’s head, represents death, the ephemeral nature of life.
The passage of time is also represented by the hourglasses.
The tears shed for the loss of love, of youth…
Sam’s songs have evoked all these themes for me 🙂
